FEELING TIRED AND LOW ON ENERGY?

Within us all there is a silent system working to keep us healthy- the lymph system. Without it our bodies would swell up like balloons, swamping our cells with stagnant fluid. The lymph system's impact is so far reaching that many don't even realize that minor aches and pains, low energy or susceptibility to colds and flu may be due to a sluggish lymph system and a compromised immune system. By performing lymphatic drainage massage correctly, we can stimulate the opening of the initial lymphatic and increase the volume of lymph flow by as much as 20 times.

A lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle form of massage which stimulates the body’s lymphatic system, allowing it to naturally circulate fluids and increase the body’s metabolism and immune system. It is a profound technique to help increase lymph flow. With an increase of lymph flow immune function is increased. Harmful substances are removed from the tissues and neutralized in the nodes. It has also been shown that an increase in lymph flow stimulates an increased production of lymphocytes- enhancing immune function.

Lymphatic drainage massage is also useful when working with clients who have sports injuries. After the initial inflammatory stage has passed, lymphatic work can be applied after Sports or Neuromuscular massage has been completed. This will help to clear the tissue of debris, and help to reduce the minor edema that sometimes occurs after deep massage. Continued applications of lymphatic drainage while the client is healing can help to enhance the tissue regeneration process by keep the tissue as healthy as possible.

Not only is lymphatic drainage useful for sports injuries, but it can also be part of a care program for fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. Because it's so gentle, it is well tolerated by these patients, who are often experiencing sore trigger points throughout the body. And by encouraging lymph flow and removing waste products, this gentle form of bodywork can help restore immune function and improve vitality.

Another common use for lymph drainage massage is with women who have had breast cancer and had some auxiliary lymph nodes removed. Sometimes these people develop edema in their arm. If there is a great deal of swelling, then this is out of the scope of practice for a most massage therapists due to the need for bandaging. If the swelling is minor however, then a fully trained lymphatic drainage therapist working in conjunction with medical supervision can do a great amount of good.

Lymph massage can benefit just about everyone. If you're feeling tired and low on energy, or if you've been sick and feeling like your body is fighting to get back on track, lymph massage would likely serve you well. In addition, athletes, surgical patients, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue sufferers, as well as those wanting a fresh look may want to consider lymphatic massage.

INTRODUCING THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR TEAM

Dr Liam Welfar

Dr. Liam Welfar, a chiropractor originally from Perth, Western Australia, is the latest practitioner to join the team at the Da Vinci Wellness Centre.

Dr. Liam initially attended Curtin University where he attained his degree in Environmental Health. He then transferred to Murdoch University where he began studying Chiropractic as part of the inaugural Murdoch Chiropractic program.

After graduating with honours in 2006, Dr. Liam immediately entered practice in a busy multi-disciplinary clinic. Here he was able to develop his interest in sports injury management, attaining his International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma in 2007.

With this he has worked as a consultant therapist with the Australian Men’s Water Polo National Squad, the Swan Districts Football Club, the Western Australian members of the Australian track cycling team and the Australian gymnastics program, among other sporting organisations.

Dr. Liam has worked to expand his scope of practice by attending numerous seminars to work with both children and elderly patients. In addition to this, he has completed his training in Dry Needling therapy.

A lifelong chiropractic patient himself, Dr. Liam has experienced the benefits of chiropractic care first hand. He is looking forward to exploring the island, diving the Caribbean and providing high quality chiropractic care to the residents of, and visitors to, Grand Cayman.
